Weight Loss Medications
)
Many patients come into their BHRT appointment not only wanting their hormones balanced, but they are interested in trialing a weight loss medication. Lifestyle changes alone may not be effective in achieving weight loss goals, and sometimes a medication is needed. If your BMI is > 30 kg/m2, a weight loss medication may be indicated to assist you with weight loss. The following calculator can help you determine if your BMI is greater than 30 kg/m2: https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/educational/lose_wt/BMI/bmicalc.htm
Weight loss improves health and prevents chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis, fatty liver disease, inflammation, sleep apnea, and may be helpful for infertility.
Weight loss medications are typically an out-of-pocket expense; however, some drug plans do provide coverage (please check with your insurance company to see if you do have coverage).
If you are wanting to add a weight loss medication to your BHRT care plan, do not hesitate to ask about them at your appointment.
